LOCALLY CRAFTED IN NAARM/MELBOURNE

The Cakey Sportsman studio located at the base of the Dandenong ranges and is responsible for crafting the majority of our unique items ~ most ready-to-wear garments, and all made -to-order items. Each item is designed and made with durability, quality and comfort in mind.

We manufacture in small batches of about ten or so garments at a time, ensuring no excess stock is created. The majority of our fabrics are locally sourced dead-stock fabrics and salvaged leathers.

Being manufactured in-house ensures that each item reflects our expressive nature, commitment to quality and innovative production process.

ARTISANAL CRAFTSMANSHIP IN CHINA

A few of our ready-to-wear items are carefully crafted by incredibly skilled artisans in China. People who have been honing their craft and skills for decades.

We have established a relationship with a small business in Suzhou, China thorugh our liason Maggie. We selected this factory to partner with, due to them being a small business like ourselves who we met in person during a sourcing expo; with shared values of partnership, mutual growth, sustainability and innovation.

Maggie's factory in Suzhou was establied in 2001 and is also BSCI certified, SEDEX certified and WRAP accredited - reflecting the highest standard in ethical manufacturing, ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions. Maggie's factory has goals to "provide a quality working environment with advanced technology that enhance all employees quality of life" and "growth in both business and personal life" - which is an attitude that strongly aligns with our own.

Cakey Sportsman views this partnerships as a true partnership - hoping that our work together will truly enable the growth of the other.

Having a few garments manufactured in Maggie's factory will ensure we reduce waste, provide skilled workers with work to support their livelihoods, and ensure our products meet Cakey Sportsman's desire for creativity, quality and sincerity to be present in each item made.

While we are able to make this work for now - this is not a sustainable model for us and unfortunately also creates more waste due to non-streamlined processes, lack of time and lack of industrial machinery. In the future we are aiming to have approximately 50% of our manufacturing occur in Australia and 50% overseas.
